GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

This is a profession position performed under the supervision of the Program Design & Management Director.  Training and technical assistance will be provided by the Transportation Coordinator.

This position ensures that all transportation vehicles (buses, cars, trucks and vans) are maintained in a state of road readiness; that preventive maintenance and service is performed on all vehicles; that both major and minor repairs meet all regulations relating to safety and a competent level of efficiency and performance. Individuals in this position will be responsible for assisting with the care, maintenance and inventory of all tools, equipment, materials, supplies and the building. He/she will assist with, maintain and complete the proper paper work on all repairs (both major and minor) and any other records that are necessary for the purpose of a smooth and functional operation.

 JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

 1. Performing preventive maintenance and services on agency transportation vehicles which includes services to prolong the life of the vehicle and make it safe to operate at all times.

2. Assist with performing all repairs/replacements at a complete level efficiency; ensuring vehicles are road ready when service is completed in accordance with state and federal regulations relative to bus repairs and safety. Report such conditions to the Center Manager, Program Design and Management Director and Transportation Coordinator.

 3. Determine through technical analysis with technical assistance provided by the Transportation Coordinator when necessary to replace engines or other vehicle parts.

 4. Assists in determining, through cost comparing and quality of a product with technical assistance provided by the Transportation Coordinator when the agency is receiving the best offer. 

5. Maintains accurate and up-to-date records on all services repairs and replacements on all vehicles with a copy of such records provided to the Program Design and Management Director and Transportation Coordinator.

 6. Maintains accurate and up-to-date inventory on all transportation related supplies, materials, tools and equipment; requisition materials, parts, supplies, etc. as needed with a copy submitted to the  Program Design and Management Director and Transportation Coordinator. 

7. Attend training sessions to improve skills and knowledge of new equipment, tool and techniques; assist in new driver orientation; may conduct training.

 8. Implement the preventive maintenance and service program within assigned service area with a copy provided to the Program Design and Management Director.

 9. Assist in determining the most effective size, model and make of vehicles to be purchased with technical assistance provided by the Transportation Coordinator.

 10. Determines which supplies, materials, parts, equipment and/lubricants are most cost effective and have best performance levels. Copies provided to the Center Manager, Program Design and Management Director and Transportation Coordinator.

 11. Maintain close communication with Center Managers on status of vehicles with a copy provided to Program Design and Management Director and Transportation Coordinator.

 12. Assist Center Managers and Transportation Coordinator in running transportation routes to assign proper vehicles and make recommendation on problem routes; serve as transporter in the absence of a driver.

 13. Coordinate with Center Manager, Program Design and Management Director and Transportation Coordinator transportation aspects of field trips; serve as driver for field trips as needed.

 14.  Preparing and submitting Mechanic work orders monthly; plan and request parts and supplies in a timely manner with a copy provided to Center Manager, Program Design and Management Director and Transportation Coordinator.

 15.  Compiling and submitting invoices of purchase to Program Design Management Director and Transportation Coordinator.

 16. Maintain a clean and safe work environment that meets local, state and federal regulations.

 17. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 
Requirements:

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 1. Be knowledgeable of technology relating to the automotive industry

 2. Be skilled in relating technical information to others.

 3. Ability to fill out technical forms.

 4. Able to interpret and cross-reference technical manuals.
