GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This is professional accounting work performed under the supervision of the Director of Finance with work directives provided by the Senior Accountant.

Employee in this position is responsible for performing a variety of accounting duties; assist others in the department to assess and reconcile accounting discrepancies and perform other general accounting duties.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Examine financial records to ensure proper recording of transactions and ensure that accounts are properly reconciled to the general ledger.

2. Prepares special audits and control reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing operating information and trends to include conducting field audits of the agency's financial operational systems I procedures; advise management on needed actions.

3. Reconciles specific accounts as assigned by the Finance Director or Senior Accountant.

4. Assists the budget officer by reviewing specific requests requiring disbursement of funds against approved budget.

5. Analyze budget data and prepare budget projections; assist in analyzing program expenditures in accordance with the agency's budget.

6. Enters specified financial data into the computer system.

7. Maintains accounts receivable and payable schedules.

8. Assist in coordination of month end general ledger accounts.

9. Prepare and submit a variety if statistical and financial reports as required.

10. Assist in maintaining the agency cost allocation plan.

11. Reconcile agency bank accounts and USDA accounts as designated by the Finance Director.

12. Report all issues and concerns that have a potential detrimental impact on the Agency in accordance with established procedures.

13. Performs other duties within the unit as assigned.

 
Requirements:

DESIREABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Basic knowledge of accounting and auditing princiles.

2. Basic knowledge of HHS/ACF and other funding sources regulations.

3. Knowledge of budgeting techniques and trends.

4. Thorough knowledge of the agency's financial management regulations and policies.

5. Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all staff levels.

6. Ability to function in a mature, professional manner at all times.

7. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

8. Thorough knowledge of computer operations.

DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration with a concentration in accounting; two years’ experience working in accounting or auditing; any acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must be able to meet minimal physical and medical standards.

2. Must have a valid Mississippi State driver's license.

3. Must have access to an automobile.

4. Must clear the criminal background check as required by the Mississippi Department of Health Child Care Licensure Bureau.
